Examines Japanese FDI in the world economy. This work considers the theoretical explanations for Japanese FDI and particular motifs which have been a continuing rationale for FDI, including energy and resource security; the theme of retaining market access; withdrawal after the bubble economy; and the new phase of investment in the 2000s.
